Meet Our Professional Staff
The cardiologists of Central Connecticut Cardiology are American trained at leading institutions. The physicians are board certified in cardiology and additionally certified in echocardiography, interventional cardiology and nuclear cardiology. They have teaching appointments at the University of Connecticut.

Doctor Kennedy is board certified in cardiology. She is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a member of the American Medical Association. Dr. Kennedy is a recognized specialist in women’s issues in cardiology.

Doctor Mitchel is a Fellow of both the American College of Cardiology and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions. He is board certified in cardiology, interventional cardiology and ringside medicine. He is a recognized authority in coronary angioplasty and stenting of complex coronary artery disease. Dr. Mitchel has accumulated vast experience and has been a welcome addition to the practice, which he joined in February 2017.
After 9/11, Dr. Mitchel volunteered for the United States Army Medical Core, served eight years, and was deployed under Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He has received the United States Army Medical Commendations Award.
Dr. Mitchel is a physician volunteer with Connecticut USA Boxing.

Doctor Toce is board certified in cardiology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a member of the American Medical Association. Dr. Toce has been Medical Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation at Johnson Memorial Hospital. He has been a member of Central Connecticut Cardiologists since 1998.

Doctor Athar joined Central Connecticut Cardiologists in 2007. He is trained in both coronary angioplasty and stenting as well as peripheral artery angioplasty and stenting. He is board certified in cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology, echocardiography and nuclear cardiology. Dr. Athar is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He is the Medical Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation at Johnson Memorial Hospital. Dr. Athar has been named a “Top Doc” by Hartford Magazine.

Doctor Glew is board certified in cardiovascular disease, internal medicine, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology and vascular interpretation. He is a member of the American College of Cardiology and the American Society of Echocardiography. He also served as the Chief Cardiology Fellow at Mount Sinai Beth Israel.

Doctor O’Beirne is board certified in cardiology, nuclear cardiology, echocardiography and cardiac electrophysiology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. In addition to all aspects of clinical cardiology, Dr. O’Beirne performs electrophysiology procedures, including pacemaker and defibrillator implants, as well as cardiac ablations.

Vamsi Naraparaju, M.D.

Dr. Vamsi Naraparaju specializes in cardiovascular disease and maintains board certification in Cardiovascular Disease. He earned his medical degree from Osmania Medical College (NTR University of Health Sciences), India, in 2009. He completed residency in Internal Medicine at the Cook County Health and Hospitals System in Chicago, IL, in 2015. He then practiced Hospital medicine as an Internal Medicine attending physician for 6 years, in Arkansas and Connecticut. He subsequently pursued fellowship training in Cardiovascular Disease at UConn Health/John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington, CT, and graduated in 2024. Dr. Naraparaju treats a broad range of heart‑related conditions. Some of his common practice areas include arrhythmias (such as atrial fibrillation), congestive heart failure, lipid disorders, coronary artery disease, hypertension, heart valve disease, and cardiomyopathies. He currently practices with Central Connecticut Cardiologists, LLC, and is affiliated with St. Francis Hospital/Trinity Health of New England in Hartford.
Aliza Hussain, M.D.

Dr. Aliza Hussain is a board-certified Interventional Cardiologist currently practicing with Central Connecticut Cardiologists, LLC, and affiliated with St. Francis Hospital. She earned her medical degree from Aga Khan University in 2014 and completed her Internal Medicine residency at the University of Pittsburgh. She subsequently pursued advanced training with a Cardiology and Lipid & Atherosclerosis fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, followed by an Interventional Cardiology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). Dr. Hussain’s research focuses on preventive cardiovascular care, particularly in patients with lipid disorders, hypertension, and diabetes, emphasizing effectiveness, equity, safety, and efficiency. She has authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals such as JACC, Circulation, and the European Heart Journal.

Amanda is certified as an adult acute care nurse practitioner. She has prior experience as a nurse in the emergency room, cardiac intensive care unit, and cardiothoracic intensive care unit. Amanda joined Central Connecticut Cardiologists in 2019.
